  • Year 2 Florence Nightingale Day

    Wed 25 Jan 2023

In history, Year 2 have been learning about how nursing has changed over the last couple of hundred years, and the significant people that helped shape modern nursing. To support this they had a workshop all about Florence Nightingale where they got to meet her and learn about her life. First they had to help Florence prepare for her journey to Scutari hospital by making candle holders, nurse sashes and medicine boxes among other things, and children could even apply to go with her and have a job interview. Our next stop was the train station in Paris en route to Scutari where the children had to use their historical detective skills to help identify some lost luggage and then learn about some of the other people that went to Scutari. In the afternoon the hall was transformed into Scutari hospital and children had the opportunity to role play different jobs such as cooks, cleaners, gardeners, nurses and injured soldiers. It was a fantastic day and the children learnt so much.

  • Early Years Dough Gym

    Tue 24 Jan 2023

This week the Nursery and Reception children (and parents!) had a great workout in our dough gym workshops. Parents had the chance to make play dough together with their child and learnt about how dough gym can help develop children’s fine and gross motor skills. It was a lot of fun and great to see so many families getting involved.

  • Year 3 Target Games

    Wed 18 Jan 2023

Year 3 had a great opportunity to take part in a Target Games competition with other local schools. After arriving at Longdean, they were tasked with having a go at 8 different target games. These included archery, foot golf and many throwing activities. It was great fun trying lots of different activities and everyone worked really hard. The children displayed some great skills and sportsmanship - well done Chambersbury!

  • Year 4 Viking Workshop

    Thu 12 Jan 2023

To start our History topic ‘The Vikings’, Year 4 welcomed a visitor from the local museum.  They completed a workshop were they looked at different artefacts from Viking times including a helmet, sword, and spindle. The children were able to discuss what happened in Viking times and got some key questions answered like, ‘Why do longboats have dragons on the front?’ and ‘Were females allowed to fight?’ Some children were given the chance to try on Viking clothes and to use a spindle to make wool. Visits like this are a great way to support children's learning.

  • Poetry Slam!

    Mon 09 Jan 2023

We had a great start to the week (and 2023) with our Poetry Slam Assembly. All classes studied a poem or a particular type of poetry. For example, Year 6 studied sonnets (like the ones written by Shakespeare) and Year 2 wrote their own riddles. The assembly gave each class a chance to talk about their learning and share their poems with the school. We had a lovely assembly listening to poetry and learning about the different poetry styles we can read and write.

Ask the children which was their favourite style and why?
