  • Affinity Water Visit

Mon 30 Jan 2017 Mr Guilder

On Monday the whole school was joined for an assembly by Sarah from Affinity Water who talked to us about STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. We learnt that not all scientists wear white coats, and how different jobs at Affinity Water use STEM in different ways. We heard how they deliver 900 million litres to 3.5 million people every day and thought about the different ways that we use water. We all use about 160 litres a day and we talked about how we could use less water through little actions.

After our assembly Year 5 had an opportunity to take part in a STEM workshop with Sarah, transporting water around the school hall. It was great fun and children learnt a lot as they took part in the activity.

"We need water to live, it's really important" - Felicity Year 3

"I liked learning how to move water around, like it does in our houses" - Shazaib Year 5

  • Choral outreach for Years 3-5

Tue 24 Jan 2017 Mr Guilder

We are very lucky to have been invited to take part in this year's Choral Outreach at St.Albans Abbey! The free event (for schools and the parent audiences) is on Thursday 23rd March at 5pm - put it in your diaries!

As part of the preparations for this event Year 3,4 & 5 are receiving a series of 10 lessons Mrs Maddock from Herts Music service. The first of these took place today and children had great fun doing a number of vocal warm ups before learning calypso and gospel style songs.

  • Generation Green: Smarter Power

Fri 06 Jan 2017 Mr Guilder

On Friday 6th January, Year 4-6 met in the hall to take part in a special competition set by British Gas.

Generation Green gives children a chance to learn about saving energy, renewable sources of electricity and smart meters. Our children had a chance to take part in a number of interactive tasks focussed on saving energy. It was then back to classrooms to create the competition entries - we'll let you know if we win anything!
