Keep up to date with all the news happening in school at the moment.
On Wednesday 11th October, Year 3 and 4 went to Chiltern Open Air Museum to take part in workshops based on their learning in History.
In the morning, Year 3 took part in a Stone Age workshop in which they built fires, made bracelets and built a shelter. At the same time, Year 4 took part in an Anglo-Saxon workshop lead by Anna the Anglo-Saxon. We learnt how to thatch a roof, translate some Latin, play Anglo-Saxon games and wrote in runes. We also made brooches and were able to try on an Anglo-Saxon helmet and hold a shield. Year 4 felt like real Anglo-Saxon Warriors.
In the afternoon, Year 3 took part in an archaeological dig (they had to excavate poo!) and Year 4 made bricks and rag rugs.
All the children and the adults had a fantastic day.
Adyan - "I liked the trip because I was able to play the Earl in the Anglo-Saxon workshop and I enjoyed making the brooches."
Gravinia - "I enjoyed making the bricks."
Kirsten - "I liked that I got to do lots of different things to do with the Anglo-Saxons. I even did some more work on Latin and runes when I got home!"
As part of our commitment to engaging children in competitive sports and activities, Year 6 took part in the annual Tag Rugby House Competition. Playing a round-robin format of games, every child in the class represented their house.
The eventual winners were Long Legged Owls who won 50 house points for all their efforts!
There were some fantastic individual performances too: Fajar won player of the tournament; Samir was the most improved player; and Sonny took the captains award.
Mr Chan, one of the world's leading ten second maths experts, has been coming into school to take lessons with Year 4 & 6.
In Year 6 Mr Chan took us through some of the patterns, rhymes and techniques we can use for learning our times tables. We were amazed how quickly we were able to work using Mr Chan's ideas and loved the way he used lots of humour to grab our attention.
There is currently a 'Stop Means Stop' Campaign regarding the School Crossing Patrol Service, running until half term and your attention is drawn to the flyer below.
On Wednesday the 4th October, children at Chambersbury Primary School were joined by 70 parents and Captain Marie Burr from the Salvation Army to celebrate our Harvest Festival.
We kicked off by singing the Harvest Samba as a school before Reception performed Dingle Dangle Scarecrow with A LOT of enthusiasm! We had poetry from Year 3 before Year 2 showed some of the observational drawings of food items they'd brought in.
Year 4 shared about the journey our food makes from the field to the plate, linking into work they have been doing in Science about carbon footprints. Year 5 brought some poetry based on the five senses before Year 1 retold the story of Little Red Hen.
We finished with a video from Year 6 (you can rewatch here - https://chambersbury.primarysite.media/media/harvest) and The Harvest Song.
Congratulations to Year 6, the class who brought in the most items for our Harvest collection. Overall we brought in over a thousand items which have been donated to the Salvation Army and the work they do.
