  • School Cinema Trip

    Fri 26 Nov 2021

On Thursday morning, Years 2 to 6 took to the paths of Hemel Hempstead when we walked to the local cinema. Although it was a bit of a trek, the weather was good and we made it there and back in good time. Speaking to some of the children, they seemed to enjoy the film and experience (so did the adults).

Many of the children have only just started visiting the cinema again so it was lovely to give them the opportunity to visit with their friends. Again, we had wonderful comments from the cinema staff and members of the public about the children’s manners and wonderful behaviour.

  • Children in Need

Fri 19 Nov 2021 House Captians

Today the school was a sea of colour as we raised money for Children in Need.

This week’s assemblies have all been focussed on charities. In Mrs Chapman's assembly on Wednesday, she demonstrated the differences in drinking water throughout the world and discussed why not everyone has access to clean water. We were shocked how some children have no choice but to drink from dirty water sources like rivers and streams. We also discussed National Toilet Day! This day aims to bring to everyone's attention that not all people have access to a toilet which can cause a range of health concerns and unsafe drinking water!

So far we have raised an amazing £245.61! Thank you to everyone who has donated!

  • Remembrance Assembly

    Thu 11 Nov 2021

On Thursday, at 11am, our playground fell silent as the whole school gathered together. As a Year 3 said, “we are remembering those who died to protect our country!”

Our House Captains read the famous poem, ‘For the Fallen’.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

We held our 2 minute silence then listened to the Last Post being played. The children were extremely respectful and from Nursery to Year 6 stood still and silent. Holding our Remembrance Assembly on our usually noisy playground at the same time that WWI ended was very poignant .On Remembrance Sunday, there will be a national memorial service at the Cenotaph attended by members of the Royal Family and MPs. I also know many of the children from Chambersbury School will be marching in uniforms and taking part in local Remembrance Parades. I spoke in our service about how we can all be thankful for those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to everyone who is currently servicing in our armed forces.

  • Year 6 Bletchley Park Visit

    Mon 08 Nov 2021 Darcy (Year 6)

    WWII—Home of the Codebreakers!

On Monday 8th November, Year 6 visited Bletchley Park because we are learning about World War II. Whilst, we were there, we learnt that the people who worked there during the war played a major role in winning the war—by breaking the Germans’ Enigma code. A guide took us around for the first part and talked us through what happened at Bletchley Park during the war.

I enjoyed going into the huts and looking in the different rooms. The part that shocked me the most was learning that our ally (Poland) gave Britain their work in progress (research), saving us one year of coding!  The class could not believe that the people who worked there had to keep their work a secret for thirty years after the war had ended!

Another fantastic trip to enhance our curriculum and bring learning to life for the children. Bletchley Park is well worth a visit!

  • Bonfire Friday

    Fri 05 Nov 2021

As part of Wild Chambersbury, all classes had the opportunity to spend some time in our wild area around the bonfire. Each class prepared different activties to help them earn some of their class badges.

Some classes sang songs, some read stories, some had hot chocolate and some cooked.

Thank you Mrs Chapman and Ms Cooper for looking after the fire all day and helping us learn in new and exciting ways!

  • Year 3 & 4 Trips to Chiltern Open Air Museum

    Tue 02 Nov 2021

Year 3 had a fantastic time at Chiltern Open Air Museum, learning about Stone Age and Iron Age life. The children made flour, bread, clay pots and butter, as well as making fire and using a Mesolithic bow and arrow.

Year 4 enjoyed going to Chiltern Open Air Museum this week, bringing their new topic of Anglo-Saxons to life. They really enjoyed making brooches and writing runes on pottery.

Both classes were complimented on their excellent behaviour and their eagerness to learn! It is always lovely to hear these wonderful comments especially from people outside of school.
