Welcome to Year 2!
Our teacher is Miss Allen and our teaching assistants are Miss Fakwes, Mr Timberlake and Mrs Wallis.
PE lessons are on Mondays and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure that full PE kit is in at all times as we may have unplanned lessons, and the children will need trainers for run together. This includes socks to change into if children are wearing tights. Please make sure children don't have earrings in, or are able to remove them themselves.
Homework will be set on a Friday and need to be returned by the following Wednesday. Each week there will be spellings set, which are tested the following Friday in the form of a dictated sentence. There is also weekly maths homework and occasional English when relevant to our learning.
Please read with your child at least 5 times a week and make sure their reading diaries are signed each day.
Learning times tables is a really important skill! In year 2 we are focusing on learning our 2s, 5s, and 10s at the moment, but will also be starting to learn our 3s and 4s later in the year. It is important to know them in order and randomly (without having to count through them all) so please practise regularly.
Keep checking back here to find out more about what we have been doing, what is coming up, and to see some examples of our work.
In Year 2 we have a few friends who like to go home with children who are making good choices at school.
On Fridays Marley and Snuggles each choose a child to go home with for the weekend.
It would be great if you could encourage your child to talk about how they need to be looked after. Please also encourage your child to write about what they did with the mascot over the weekend. They can also draw a picture if it helps. Encourage your child to use the sound mat inside to help them.
We also have Super Dog! Super Dog loves to stay fit and healthy and has chosen your child this week to help him in his mission to stay active. Super Dog goes home with someone from Monday to Friday.
Each day please try to do some kind of exercise (for 10 – 30 minutes). This could be anything! From going for a walk, walking up and down the stairs, playing a game in the garden, to an after school club. Please help your child to write down briefly what they did, and draw a picture/take a photo for each day.
We hope you have fun getting to know our class mascots - and can't wait to hear what they have been getting up to in class!
