That's all for this term yolks!

  • Middle School Production

Wed 28 Mar 2018 Miss Dimmock

During this half term, Middle School have been rehearsing for their Spring Production. Each year, Middle School produce an adaptation of a well known traditional tale. This year we have chosen 'The Three Little Pigs'.

Each child has worked very hard during the last 5 weeks to learn all of the songs and dance moves to put on a great show.  As well as singing and dancing, lots of the children have been involved in making their masks, helping with props,  learning lines and practicing their best impressions of some of important members of our staff team! It really has been a team effort to pull it all off.

A huge well done to all of the children for a fantastic show!

We thank the parents, once again, for supporting us, providing children with costumes and making a great audience.

" I loved playing Ms Cooper because she is brave and kind. I loved being a little bit mischievous as well!" - Felicity

"I love the actions I did for my character and that it made people laugh" - Amelia

"I liked everything about the production, especially when we find Mr Wolf guilty" - Zeal

  • Our Terrific Tag Rugby Team

Thu 22 Mar 2018 Mr Guilder

On Thursday the 22nd of March, nine spectacularly talented Year 5&6 students from Chambersbury Primary School took part in the Saracens Sport Foundation Tag Rugby Festival at Camelot.

Pitted in a league against four strong local schools, Chambersbury performed superbly in the non-scored games with six different try scorers and a number of stand out performances. "It was great," said Man of the Tournament Curtis, "I enjoyed the opportunity to beat other schools, even if it wasn't competitive!"

Connie added, "It was just a lot of fun, I thought that we were really well organised and that helped us in our games." The team definitely stuck to their game plan, as they came up against bigger schools and were able to hold their ground, grinding out the tries.

Captain Fajar said, "I loved it, it was good being captain and I enjoyed scoring a couple of tries as well!" Other try scorers were Curtis (2), Tristan (1), Samir (1), Zara (1) and top scorer Sonny (5).

Most importantly, the team represented our school superbly. They were polite (on and off the field), hard-working and showed immense togetherness.

  • Year 3's Roman Adventure

Wed 21 Mar 2018 Miss Savage

On Wednesday 21st March, Year Three went on a trip to Verulamium Museum in St Albans to learn more about the Romans and local history.

Our day involved a lot of very interesting, practical activities designed to immerse the children into the Roman way of life. For our first activity, we dressed up in traditional Roman and Celtic outfits and had a closer look at a Roman market setting. We learnt that the Romans tended to buy fresh food every few days because they didn’t have fridges or freezers to help keep their food for longer!

Next, we went on a tour of the museum and looked at different Roman artefacts, which had been found in the local area.

Luckily for us, the sun was shining so we were able to finish our trip with a walk across Verulamium Park to take a closer look at the hypocaust. We were amazed to see the remains of the walls still standing! We couldn’t believe this was somewhere that actual Roman people used to live.

Here are a few things that Year Three have to say about the trip…

“I enjoyed looking at the mosaics because they were really detailed.” – Libby

“I liked the skeletons because they looked real.” – Ben (They were!!)

“I loved the kitchen things because they all looked similar to what I have at home.” – Alice

“I enjoyed looking at the remains of the Roman house because it’s really ancient and it told me what it was like in Roman times.” – Hooria

  • Reception's Rescue Mission

Wed 14 Mar 2018 Miss Alford

On Wednesday 14th March Reception Class ventured into the woods for our third 'Creativity in the woods' session. We were given a rescue mission to complete!

The Fairy Princess that looks after the woods had gone to look for her pet unicorn and hadn't been back to her home (the magic tree) in days... We found the magic tree, followed the fairy dust and made an enormous ladder to rescue them! We also saw lots green shoots popping up from the ground and some rabbits hopping by, Spring is on its way!'

  • BMX Academy

Mon 12 Mar 2018 Mr Guilder

On Monday 12th March, Mike Mullen (a former U.K. BMX champion) from BMX Academy School came to visit the children at Chambersbury.

The whole school was invited to an assembly where Mike introduced himself and showed video footage of some of his stunts. He then talked about fear and failure and how having a growth mindset can show us what to do when these things happen. He shared a made up word "Flearn" which is about learning when we fail.

We thought about our comfort zones and our learning zones, and watched as Mr Guilder went out of his comfort zone to learn a BMX trick! Mike finished the assembly by talking about role models. He shared about his role model - Matt Hoffman - and how his slogan was "Rise Above". Mike took this slogan and applied it areas of his life including when he was at school

Children had the chance to ask Mike any burning questions before a demonstration of his BMX skills in the school hall!

Year 5 & 6 had an opportunity to work with Mike over the rest of the day in some practical workshops on the BMXs.

  • World Book Day (A week later than planned!)

    Fri 09 Mar 2018

After a snow disrupted book week, Friday 9th May finally saw our World Book Day events taking place. Children and Staff from across the school came to school in their PJs, and enjoyed a number of activities including themed maths lessons, story making and - of course - reading!

We also had a special celebration assembly led by Unicorn Alford where classes shared what they had been doing during book week.  Lower school shared some of their favourite stories, many of which were bear themed. Year 3 and 4 children shared dream diaries inspired by the BFG. Year 5 shared scary poetry and Year 6 shared some of the suspense narratives they have written.
