  • Victorian Day

    Wed 26 Jan 2022

Year 2 went back in time to experience life in the Victorian times (1854 to be exact). They were greeted by Miss Florence Nightingale and asked to travel with her to France. She was on her way to the hospital there and shared with the children her mission to improve conditions for the injured. The class made candleholders, diaries, lockets for their loved ones and nurses’ sashes to prepare for their journey to France. The children were able to experience life in the hospitals for both the soldiers and nurses. They were able to see first-hand some of the items the other nurses, doctors and passengers may have packed!

They all looked amazing and the day was a fantastic way to bring their learning to life and develop their history knowledge further.

  • Defibrillator Gifted to Chambersbury

    Tue 11 Jan 2022

Chambersbury Primary School have been presented with a piece of life-saving equipment. We have been donated an automated external defibrillator, which can be used to revive heart attack victims, courtesy of Wayne’s Fund. In assemblies this week, the children have been learning about defibrillators, like the one in school and where they are in the community. Classes will also complete lessons in first aid later on in the year as this forms part of our curriculum.

The trust was set up in memory of Wayne Pope, who died in 2005 from Sudden Arrhythmic Death 10 days before his 30th birthday. Since then, his family have raised money to buy equipment for schools and youth groups in Hertfordshire. John Pope, Wayne’s dad, presented our House Captains  with the equipment last week. Almost all of our staff are first aid trained and are trained to use a defibrillator.

As a school, we raised money for Wayne’s Fund before lockdown 2020 through donations received for our year group performances throughout the year. We are delighted to be able to make a contribution to Wayne’s Fund on behalf of Chambersbury.
