  • Children In Need

Fri 18 Nov 2016 Mr Guilder

Children and staff across Chambersbury went completely spotty for Children In Need. Dressing in spotty clothes and many Pudsey bears children raised nearly £200 for the charity.

During our celebration assembly Mrs Chapman shared with us about the work Children In Need do and why it is so important.

  • Year 5's adventure to Parliament and the Globe

    Wed 09 Nov 2016 Emma & Connie

On Wednesday 9th November, a group of 27 talented young people and their intrepid teachers set off in search of London. We were eager to find out all we didn't know about our History topic and William Shakespeare.

After a long 3-hour journey, and meeting the Queen along the way, we finally reached our destination.

As soon as we arrived in Parliament the first thing we did was meet out tour guides, Phil and Patrick. They gave us name tags to show we were visitors in Parliament. We had to go through airport controls and Mr Guilder's whistle got confiscated! When we got in Parliament I felt really small. We went in where all the MPs would sit when they are having a debate. My favourite part was they Patrick told us that we are almost as important as the Queen because we are allowed in the House of Commons and she is not!

After a long and tiring we we finally met our guide Al. He showed us the Globe and told us how it was a replica built around 20 years ago. We went backstage and then went on the stage, it was amazing. Al told us the reason it has no roof was because they had no lights . We then went to the studios to do our workshop.

When we arrived, Al picked a few of us to play Oberon, Titania, the Changling Child and the Lovers from a Midsummer Night's Dream. We did a lot of acting and played a game similar to follow the leader, I didn't want it to end!

The journey home seemed to take forever, but I enjoyed the day very much and I'm greatful for going on such an adventure.

  • NSPCC: Speak out. Stay safe.

Mon 07 Nov 2016 Mr Guilder

We were joined by Diana and Emma from the NSPCC for two key stage assemblies about their "Speak out. Stay safe." campaign. We met Buddy the mascot and we're reminded that all children have the right to:

    • Speak out and be heard
    • be safe
    • get help when they need it

We thought about the worries we might have and the trusted adults we can talk to about these. We also looked at definitions of different types of abuse and discussed these.

They told us about childline a service for when we don't feel we can talk to a trusted adult or a teacher.

You can phone childline on 0800 111 or visit the website www.childline.org.uk

"I think it's good that the phone number is easy to remember, is on 24 hours a day and is free because it means you can get in contact if you need it" - Sonny

"We learnt about different kinds of bullying and ways we can deal with that which is really useful." - Mazie

  • Presenting a cheque to the Starfish Ward

Wed 02 Nov 2016 Mr Guilder

On Wednesday 2nd November we were visited by staff from the Starfish Ward at Watford Hospital. This is the children's ward, which is close to our school's heart and a number of children from our school have been treated there. We know it can be a hard place for children to be and so we wanted to help make their time in hospital a better place.

We raised £250 pounds from selling tickets at our middle school production of Jack and the Beanstalk. The Starfish Ward will use this money to buy toys & games for the children in the hospital.

We presented the cheque in a special assembly. The voucher was presented by children who took part in the production and Mr Taylor.

"It is really good that we are able to help people with the things that we have been doing in school" - Dolly (Year 5)

"Pupils at Chambersbury Primary School receive a good quality of education. They know staff want them to do well." OFSTED, November 2022
