Keep up to date with all the news happening in school at the moment.
This week saw the school's first summer fair in many years and we could not have been luckier with the weather. As the sun shone down it was lovely to see so many families and ex-pupils enjoying the fair. From face painting, fun traditional games, tombolas and a bouncy castle there was lots to do.
We are still waiting for a final total but this more than £800 was raised! Thank you to everyone that helped with planning, setting up, running and clearing up. We couldn't have done it without you all.
Pictures to come!
Nursery, Reception and Year 1 had a wonderful day at the zoo. All the animals were out for the children to see although most were sunbathing! The lions appeared to be the favourite among the Reception class. The Dino Park also proved to be popular with the moving dinosaurs and the ones that were shooting water at us!
Earlier this year Chambersbury started their OPAL journey with visits from our Play Advisor. She has been around at lunchtimes to support school to make changes in play and improve what we have already. She has already seen a big difference (since September) in the lunchtime provision and notes the good work already started.
Mud, mud, glorious mud, Nothing quite like it...especially at playtime!
We are encouraging the children to play a range of different games at lunch and are taking time to play and model these in lessons. The children may play on the trim trial, go on the gym and run around the grass areas by the playground. This does mean they may get muddy especially if they are collecting the leaves or mud to play a game. Having a change of shoes at school and a washable coat will be a must moving forward. Thankfully, the school uniform is designed to be quick and easy to wash. We also encourage outside learning during our curriculum lessons therefore having a change of shoes can come in useful for these important lessons. School is meant for learning, exploring, experimenting through play and sometimes this means getting dirty.
Every fortnight we have a Play Assembly to introduce new equipment and resources for lunchtime. Our last additions have been sheets/blankets, chalk and this week tires! The Play Team introduce the resources in an assembly and discuss how it can be used safely and collect ideas of how to use it! We are a creative bunch
You may have seen the logo in town or heard about the Electric Umbrella Company. They create amazing, live, interactive music working along side disabled people in the local community. This means everyone and anyone can join in the fun! We certainly had fun when they visited Chambersbury yesterday to deliver their workshop ‘There is no such thing as normal’. All classes had the opportunity to join in with the Electric Umbrella members (and professional musicians) to be part of their performance. The Electric Umbrella’s workshop was about helping each other, learning to get along and bringing people together! Electric Umbrella empowers the entire school community to explore issues of equality, diversity and inclusion and celebrate difference. We are all different – let’s celebrate this! “And when our superstars take to the stage, they help change the way the world looks at them - and others.” Electric Umbrella Company.
Year One had a wonderful time at Hudnall Park and enjoyed many activities in the great outdoors. The children completed many interesting tasks, such as:
• Using maps skills to collect illustrations of the life cycle of a plant and then working as a team to sequence it.
• Playing the cooperation game, trying to ‘meet’ a tree blindfolded, whilst being led by their partner.
• Searching for and identifying a variety of mini-beasts, which was a firm favourite!
• Soil painting, super messy and fun!
A good time was had by everyone—what a fantastic trip
World Book day is celebrating its 29th birthday in 2024 and once more our school day featured events in school to promote the importance of reading for our children. World Book Day provides a fantastic opportunity to focus on reading for pleasure and also embeds a habit of reading that brings a wide range of benefits. Sharing stories is a great way to enjoy time together as a family, and help children build a love of reading for pleasure. Our Words for Life site is packed with ideas for fun, family activities that support children's reading, writing and speaking at home. https://wordsforlife.org.uk/themes/celebrate-world-book-day-at-home/
House Cup and Run Together winners! In celebration assembly, we announced our House Group winders for Spring 1! Well done to Indian Owls for winning to House Cup with 2884 points and to Elf Owls for winning the Run Together trophy! It was a very close race this half term!
Playing TOGETHER—has been the theme for Feeling Good Week this week. The week enriches our PSHCE curriculum and promotes positive well-being. The week started with an assembly led by Mr Dunford and Miss Cope talking about ‘The Benefits of sport and Physical Activity on Our Well-Being’. Throughout the week the classes have completed lessons and sessions on social skills (like turn taking) and discussing strategies when things go wrong. We finished the week with Fire Pit Friday—a lovely way to finish the term and our well-being week! HAPPY HALF TERM! Here are a few pictures from the week. Reception and Year Three teamed up this week to play games together in the hall. The Year Three’s were fantastic at explaining the rules and helping our younger children. Year One had a lovely time outside with their favourite soft toys, enjoying pancakes with golden syrup and fruit.
This week Year 6 finished their history topic on WWII: The Home Front by testing out some ration based recipes. They made eggless, low sugar, low butter chocolate cake, tea and sultana cakes and cheese and potato dumplings. The worked hard to measure out ingredients, but learnt first hand the importance of knowing the difference between tea spoons and table spoons! Overall the tea and sultana cakes came out on top, with lots of the children wanting to try making them again at home.
The showdown of TT ROCKSTARS happened this week in a live final on the big screen. Our ROCKSTAR champions sat down in front of the whole school and battled their way through their multiplication knowledge. They were silently cheered on by their whole school—obviously we did not want to put them off when answering their quick fire questions! Well done to all our finalists but especially to Dheshan (3rd place), Autumn (2nd place) and our winner Rayyan!
