Phonics

We teach phonics daily in Year Two, following our ELS (Essential Letters and Sounds) Phonics Scheme.

Most children in Year 2 will be consolidating their knowledge of Phase 5 sounds and will learn Phase 6 spelling rules later in the year. If your child struggles with reading and spelling, you may want to recap the earlier phases...

 

Here are some useful phonics games and resources that we use in school.

 

Remember: these are web sites we don't control, so be sensible.

If you ever see something that worries you, turn off your screen and tell a trusted adult.

  • Phonics Play A series of phonics games (usually subscription required, but currently free)
  • Topmarks Phonics Some games based on the letters and sounds scheme which we use in school
  • Phonics Bloom A selection of phonics games (some games require a subscription)
