Year 5 & 6 Residential

Wednesday 22nd May 2024

Our final day was filled with 2 brilliant activities: fencing and high equilibrium. Fencing was a great chance to learn some new skills and even a bit of French! High Equilibrium was a test of nerves as the children had to climb up a tall pole, and then stand on a moving seesaw at the top! Those that made it to the top then had to try and balance the seesaw. The children worked amazingly!

After a packed lunch and some final time playing outside (luckily for the most part the rain held off) it was time for the sleepy coach ride home.

Tuesday 21st May

A much soggier start today but we wouldn't let it dampen our spirits.

The day involved a mixture of activities including archery, climbing, fire lighting and buggy building. Lots of fun had by all and the children showed great perseverance in the rain - especially when lighting fires!

The highlight of the day was the 3G swing! Working as a team, the children pulled each other up into the air and then the swing would release back down. The children worked through their fears and did amazingly well.

In the evening the children had a chance to reflect on their trip and play some games. Unfortunately, our campfire was rained off but we were still able to enjoy marshmallows and biscuits before watching part of a film.

All quiet now ready for a fun-filled last day! We've got fencing and high equilibrium (a final test of bravery), before it's time to head home. We are aiming to leave just after lunch but will keep school posted to let you know our eta.

We will post some final pictures and videos later in the week!

Monday 20th May 2024

Started the day with a delicious full English breakfast, cereals and toast. All the groups then headed off to a range of different activities including archery, buggy build, laser tag and shelter building.

In the afternoon, we all headed off for our first BIG activity - the QUICK ZIP! Everyone had a fantastic go and lots of the children felt incredibly proud for facing their fears.

After dinner, it was time for some team games and then 'Scrap Heap Challenge' where the children were challenged to fashion a new outfit for the teachers out of cardboard. They were judged on practicality, functionality, creativity and style. There were also bonus points for the best catwalk.

Hot chocolate then bed after a long, fun-filled day.

Sunday 19th May 2024

After arriving at sunny Kingswood, we were shown around the grounds by our instructor Josh. First we hit the obstacle course. The children were fantastic team players.

After a delicious dinner of Mexican fajjitas and chilli - and lots of chips -  the children had a chance to  discuss goals for the trip and personal challenges.

We then had a mini Olympics - the children loved battling it out showing off their athletic skills but also their acting abilities.

A fab first day!

Photo Drop

A photo drop of some specific activities - we did our best to capture as many of the children as possible!

At School

Those children who did not go on the trip have been completing a fun project at school to design a new theme park. They had to think carefully about building costs, running costs, entrance fees, who their target audience would be and advertising. They created their own rides, display banners, tickets and more!

On Wednesday they also managed to get out for a short campfire, despite the rain!
