Plants and how they grow

Plants and How they Grow

Science Week

As part of science week we set up 2 experiments to help us learn about how plants grow...

Experiment 1: What do plants need to live?

We know that plants need light and water to live but we wanted to know more so set up an experiment where one plant has light and water, 1 had light but NO water, 1 has water but NO light and 1 has NO light and NO water.

We made predictions about what might happen but we will have to check back in a week or 2 to see what happens.

Experiment 2: What happens if you change the colour of a plant's water?

We know that the stem of a plant transports water around a plant, so we put some carnations in different coloured water to try and change the colour of the flower. Again - this will take a little while so will need to check back for our results!

We even split the stem of one plant in half and put half in red dye, and half in blue. Some of think half the plant will go red and half blue, but the rest of us think it might go purple!
