Art week has been a great success and the children have been fully immersed in the creative world. This morning, we shared some of the children’s skill, knowledge and work in assembly. Below is a brief insight into our week of learning. 

Nursery and Reception (EYFS)

In Nursery and Reception we did art work inspired by Ida Frosk and Andy Goldworthy this week. The children made some great pictures with beans on toast and used some natural resources to create their own pictures. Isla made a lovely unicorn and Harper made a smiley face.

Year 1

In Year 1, we have been learning all about the artist, Pablo Picasso. We discovered that he used colour in his paintings to show emotions and that he created a new way of painting portraits by combining the front of the face and the profile together in one picture. We think it looks very strange!

Year 2

In Year 2 we have been comparing the Victorian artist Augustin Edouart to the modern artist Cecily Brown. The children have practised different skills, including cutting and colour mixing, which we will using at the end of the week to make a final piece of a cut out silhouette on a modern background. 

Year 3

This week, Year 3 have been studying a female graffiti artist from Afghanistan – Shamsia Hassani. We learnt how to show light and shade with watercolours and followed Hassani’s style of not drawing all of the facial features.

Year 4

Year 4 have been exploring the work of Hokusai, specifically the great wave. We have attempted to recreate the great wave in our own way. 

Year 5

In year 5 we have been studying and analysing the artwork of Frida Kahlo. We have explored the proportions of the face and have reflected on our own identities to express in our own self-portraits.

Year 6

Year 6 have been studying the word of Mexican artist, Lui Ferreya. We have completed hand studies using a range of vibrant, abstract colours and added dense lines to replicate Ferreya's distinct style. The children have really enjoyed playing with different patterns and colours to give the work a digital style.
