During periods of severe or wintry weather, the safety of our children, families, and staff is always our top priority. At these times, the school site and surrounding areas will be carefully checked to decide whether it is safe for the school to open.
We will always do our very best to remain open wherever possible.
However, if the school needs to close or our Snow Plan needs to be put in place, parents and carers will be informed as quickly as possible.
- A text message will be sent to confirm whether the school is open or closed and to advise if the Snow Plan is in operation, so it is important that the school office has your most up-to-date mobile number.
- Information will also be shared on the school website, including details of the Snow Plan if required.
- Updates will be available via BBC Three Counties Radio on 103.8 FM and 104.5 FM, as well as on the Hertfordshire County Council website, which lists official school closure information.
To help us manage these situations safely and efficiently, we kindly ask that parents only contact the school to report absences. Staff will be busy supervising children and managing arrangements on site.
If the school remains open children should attend wearing:
- Suitable outdoor footwear and bring a change of shoes for indoor use.
- Normal school uniform should still be worn.
Children will have the opportunity to play outside on the field, taking turns in small groups. If there is a specific reason your child should not take part in outdoor play, please let their class teacher know in writing.
Children will be reminded of our Snow Safety Rules while on the school premises.
This includes:
- Not sliding on icy or gritted surfaces
- Not throwing snowballs.
While main pathways around the school will be cleared, salted, and gritted wherever possible, icy patches may still form in very cold conditions. Everyone is asked to take extra care when moving around the school site. The school cannot accept responsibility for accidents that may occur as a result of slippery conditions.
Please note that pavements and paths outside the school gates are not maintained by the school. Any concerns regarding public walkways should be directed to Dacorum Borough Council.
If the school is required to close for more than one day, class teachers will provide learning activities on the school website to support children’s continued learning at home.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. By working together, we can help keep everyone in the Chambersbury Primary School community safe during periods of bad weather.
