Parents are informed by HCC of allocations following the closure of the admissions process in the year of Reception admission.

We invite children to visit with their parents, see their new classroom and meet their new teacher, the term before admission.  In addition, an evening meeting for parents is organised a few weeks before new children are due to enter school, so that they can meet other parents and have any questions answered by the staff.

Please do take time to view the school website which gives an insight into how the school operates. We would also urge you to visit our school and see the school first hand. If you have any questions, please email admin@chambersbury.herts.sch.uk

Visit dates for prospective Reception 2026 intake:

10th January 2026 @ 9am

If you have specific questions about your child starting school and would like to speak with a member of the Senior Leadership Team, please contact Mrs J Norton in the School Office on 01442 256435 and she will be able to schedule a telephone appointment for you. If your child has additional needs and you would like to speak with our SENCo Mrs D Gerber, again please contact Mrs J Norton and she will ensure you receive communications with her.

In Year Admissions

An application to move between schools straight away (or within a few weeks) is known as an 'In Year' application. This is when a child wishes to transfer to another school outside of the usual transfer time, for example because of a change of address.

Further information on moving schools and how to make an In Year application can be found online at:

If you wish to apply for a place at Chambersbury Primary School, further guidance on how to make an In Year application is available from Hertfordshire local Authority. Please use the link below.

Appeals

In Hertfordshire, if your child has been refused a place at a primary school (for example, starting Reception or transferring in the normal admissions round) or for an in-year application (changing schools during the school year), you have the right to appeal that decision using the council’s online appeals system. An independent appeal panel, usually made up of three people with no previous involvement in your case, will review the evidence from both you and the admission authority and decide whether to uphold or reject the appeal. Appeals are generally heard virtually via Microsoft Teams and are scheduled within statutory timescales, in-year appeals must be heard within weeks of being lodged and primary appeals are heard during the summer appeal period or within legal deadlines. If the panel upholds your appeal, the school must offer your child a place; the panel’s decision is final.
