Admission to Chambersbury Primary School

Reception Places starting September 2027

Although Chambersbury is its own admitting authority, Hertfordshire County Council coordinates this process on behalf of the Governing Body for Reception and years 1 to 6. Therefore, the deadlines and the appeals process set out by Hertfordshire County Council have been adopted by Chambersbury in our Admissions Policy. Children are accepted into Reception class in the September of the school year they will turn 5.

Applications for admission into primary schools to start in September 2027 are for children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023.

Parents are informed by HCC of allocations following the closure of the admissions process in the year of Reception admission.

We invite children to visit with their parents, see their new classroom and meet their new teacher, the term before admission.  In addition, an evening meeting for parents is organised a few weeks before new children are due to enter school, so that they can meet other parents and have any questions answered by the staff.

In Year Admissions

An application to move between schools straight away (or within a few weeks) is known as an 'In Year' application. This is when a child wishes to transfer to another school outside the usual transfer time, for example, because of a change of address.

Appeals

In Hertfordshire, if your child has been refused a place at a primary school (for example, starting Reception or transferring in the normal admissions round) or for an in-year application (changing schools during the school year), you have the right to appeal that decision using the council’s online appeals system which is linked below.
