Safeguarding

Safeguarding is ‘everyone’s responsibility’

Our Principles

  • The welfare of children is paramount, and their wishes and feelings are taken into account when planning and delivering all school activities, in line with statutory guidance.
  • All children are entitled to equal support and protection, irrespective of race, age, disability, gender reassignment, sex, sexual orientation, language, religion or belief, and cultural background, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
  • All staff and volunteers have a professional duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by identifying and responding to their needs and by reporting any concerns immediately, in line with the school’s safeguarding procedures and statutory guidance.

Our Aim

- To ensure that all staff (including employed, contracted and visiting staff) and governors are provided with appropriate information and training to enable them to fulfil their statutory responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, including Prevent duty training.

-To ensure that parents, carers and pupils are provided with clear information about the school’s arrangements and procedures for keeping children safe.

-To promote safe, consistent and effective safeguarding practice across the whole school.

-To demonstrate the school’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.

Prevent Duty

Chambersbury Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. As part of this commitment, we fulfil our statutory Prevent duty under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act (2015) to help prevent children from being drawn into terrorism.

Preventing radicalisation is an important part of our safeguarding work. Radicalisation is the process by which individuals may be influenced to adopt extremist views, which can lead to involvement in terrorist activity.

We meet our Prevent responsibilities by:

- Assessing risk and taking action where concerns arise, including accessing support through the Channel programme when appropriate

- Working in partnership with external agencies, such as social care and the police

- Ensuring all staff receive appropriate safeguarding and Prevent training

- Maintaining robust online safety and IT systems, and teaching children how to stay safe online

Our curriculum, including PSHE, computing and assemblies, helps children develop resilience, understand online risks, and learn about British values and citizenship.

The school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead has responsibility for Prevent. Any concerns about possible radicalisation should be reported immediately in line with our safeguarding procedures.

Our Safeguarding lead (covering Prevent) is Mr C Payne If you have any concerns about the risk of radicalisation, please contact him.
