On Monday 12th March, Mike Mullen (a former U.K. BMX champion) from BMX Academy School came to visit the children at Chambersbury.
The whole school was invited to an assembly where Mike introduced himself and showed video footage of some of his stunts. He then talked about fear and failure and how having a growth mindset can show us what to do when these things happen. He shared a made up word "Flearn" which is about learning when we fail.
We thought about our comfort zones and our learning zones, and watched as Mr Guilder went out of his comfort zone to learn a BMX trick! Mike finished the assembly by talking about role models. He shared about his role model - Matt Hoffman - and how his slogan was "Rise Above". Mike took this slogan and applied it areas of his life including when he was at school
Children had the chance to ask Mike any burning questions before a demonstration of his BMX skills in the school hall!
Year 5 & 6 had an opportunity to work with Mike over the rest of the day in some practical workshops on the BMXs.
