During Autumn term, Year 5 studied William Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth.
We studied the play and got to understand some of the tricky Shakespearean language. The main characters that we focused on were Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and the Three Witches. Through drama and role play we got to understand the character's motivations and why they made some of the choices that they did.
Year 5's trip to The Globe
On the 28th November, Year 5 went to London to visit Shakespeare's Globe. We travelled by coach and got to see lots of the sights of London on our way there. We walked across the Millennium Bridge, past Tate Modern and onto The Globe.
Our guide, Sarah, was an expert in all things Shakespeare. We went on a tour of the theatre and even got a chance to go backstage and then perform some lines from Macbeth on the stage! We learnt all about the history of the theatre; how the rich people sat in the seats in the balcony and the poor people stood in the bottom.
In the afternoon, we were given a workshop all about Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. We did lots of different drama activities to explore their motivations and become familiar with the language.
We all had a fantastic day and learnt so much about the play and the playwright!
