Healthy Living Week 2019
We started this year's healthy living week by looking at the story 'The Yoga Ogre'. It helped us learn all about looking after our bodies and different sports and healthy activities we can do to improve our fitness.
We then received a letter from Sunny side Academy saying that during their Healthy Living Week someone had ruined their healthy feast by squashing their fruit kebabs! We had to use our maths skills so solve a range of clues to eliminate suspects to find the culprit...
In the afternoon we looked at balanced diets and what we should be eating in order to be healthy.
We looked at the different food groups and learnt about what they did...
Fruit and Vegetables: give us vitamins
Carbohydrates (Pasta, rice, bread): slow releasing energy
Protein (meats, nuts, eggs): keeps muscles strong
Dairy (Milk, cheese, yoghurt): keeps bones and teeth healthy
Fatty and sugary foods: quick releasing energy
Using these food groups we designed our own healthy balanced meals...
After designing healthy meals yesterday, today we were learning how to make one! We were making healthy pizzas.
We started by thinking about what ingredients we would be using and what our pizzas would look like...
Then we had to make them.
Later in the week we will be writing out instructions of how we did it so you can try at home!
We then had to wait while they cooked and then it was the most important part - TASTE TESTING. While we ate them we thought about what bits we liked, what we weren't as keen on, and how easy/hard it was to make them. We also thought about how we would change them if we made them again.
Overall, the pizzas went down well with lots of the children saying they'd love to have a go at making them at home.
In the afternoon we started a mindful carousel - where we moved round classrooms learning about different activities that can make us feel calm and happy. Today we did:
*taking a line for a walk
*making dream catchers
On Wednesday morning we had the chance to try-a-sport.
We went round lots of different activities including: parachute games, ball skills, tennis, hockey, boccia and speed stacking.
In the afternoon we completed our mindful carousel with some yoga and positive thinking - where we has to think of nice things to say about each other!
We started the day with some fitness activities in the hall. It was a lot of fun!
