Year 1 Sports Festival
On the 29th of June we took Year One off down to SportSpace in Hemel to take part in an event organised by the Dacorum School Sports Network (DSSN.)
This was a festival of sport and comprised of a variety of different events for the children. This included things like indoor curling, standing long jump and throwing a javelin.
We set off in our minibus (which Mr Phillips struggled with all day!) and made our trips down the road to SportSpace. Many of the Year 1 pupils were excited as this was Year 1's first trip to an organised sports event. Once we were all there we were designated a starting point on the carousel. Our School Games Organiser (SGO) Clare made sure that all of our pupils knew the rules of the centre and how the morning was going to work out.
Then we were off! We had 8 stations to complete and we were trying to score as many points as possible in our time limit! We had great involvement from all our children and they all tried their hardest to score as many points as they could. Highlights for our pupils included some screaming goals on the kick a football station along with some enormous throws of the javelin.
For their first event it was a great way to introduce our younger children to organised sport and school games. We are aiming to increase the number of events these pupils get to take part in so this was a great starter for them this year.
Photos will follow shortly.
